About 34 dogs rescued from floods in Arkansas found shelter in Colorado today.
The dogs arrived in Denver at about 5 p.m., according to news release from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
The transfer was organized by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which has helped more than 1,000 animals affected by the storms in the southern part of the country.
The dogs came from the West Memphis Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Eastern Arkansas, located in West Memphis, Ark.
West Memphis is located in Crittenden County, one of 57 counties declared a disaster area after a series of tornadoes, flash floods and severe thunderstorms tore through the state.
The animals, which were up for adoption in Arkansas, will be permanently located in Colorado to help the Arkansas shelters accommodate animals affected by the storms in the southern United States.
Three dogs will go to the Larimer Humane Society, 17 dogs will go to the Denver Dumb Friends League and 14 dogs will go to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley.
The dogs may be available for adoption next week, some as early as Monday, but many of the animals may need behavior training or socialization.
