WASHINGTON — The plane carrying President Barack Obama to Connecticut aborted its initial landing Wednesday due to poor weather but landed safely on a second approach 15 minutes later.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed a missed approach by Air Force One at Bradley International Airport at 9:50 a.m. EDT.

The White House and the FAA emphasized that the maneuver, which was made at the pilot’s discretion, was common in poor weather. A transcription of an Air Traffic Control recording indicated nothing unusual.

Members of the press corps on Air Force One said they were unaware of the initial failed approach until they were told about it by other reporters on the ground. Tribune Co.
