GOLDEN, Colo.—A Highlands Ranch woman convicted of duping family and friends out of almost $60,000 after telling them she had cancer will spend 90 days in jail.
Thirty-one-year-old Ann Crall was sentenced Thursday in Golden. After serving time in jail, she will face 10 years of intensive supervised probation for the four-year fake cancer ruse that began in 2005.
Authorities say she deceived her husband—a former police officer—as well as his coworkers and their church so she could pay for her prescription drug habit.
Denver’s KMGH-TV reported that one of Crall’s victims was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor herself and that Crall asked her for pain medications.
J.J. Beattie said Crall made a mockery of people who actually have cancer.
Crall apologized in court, calling her actions “insanity.”
