Two men were seriously injured Friday afternoon in Jefferson County when a truck smashed into them while they were sitting on a bench in a playground on South Nelson Circle near the Whisper Creek Apartments.
West Metro Fire and Rescue crews had to free a young man pinned between playground equipment and a landscaping truck.
Another young man was also struck by the truck, but was not pinned.
Both victims, Matthew Maccord, 20, and Robert Husak, 19 were transported to hospitals, Husak by helicopter, with multiple traumatic injuries.
The driver, 28-year-old Sebastian J. Kowzan of Arvada, was checked and treated on scene for minor injuries.
He was doing routine landscaping work on behalf of Terrain Natural Landscape Concepts at the Whisper Creek Apartments on South Nelson Circle.
The Colorado State Patrol said in a news release tonight that Kowzan was driving east on South Nelson Circle when he failed to follow a turn and ran off the right side of the road, crashing into the playground.
Charges are expected against the driver, but are still pending further investigation.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the accident.
