A suspected burglar was hospitalized this morning after a Colorado Springs homeowner waffled an intruder with a baseball bat, police said.

The incident happened at about 3:10 a.m. in the 4300 block of Fountain Springs Grove, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department crime blotter.

Police were called to the home on a report of burglary in progress and officers were told that the homeowner was fighting with an intruder inside the residence.

The intruder was armed with a gun and had attempted to shoot the homeowner but the weapon misfired, police said. The homeowner disarmed the intruder after striking him with a baseball bat.

The injured intruder was taken to a local hospital to be treated for a head injury. Further details on his condition were not available.

The homeowner was not injured.
