Justin Nonu, a former University of Colorado linebacker, was shot and killed early Saturday outside a house in Oceanside, Calif., police reported.
Nonu, 22, was standing with four men in a driveway when a passerby began firing a weapon, according to Capt. Leonard Mata of the Oceanside Police Department. The incident was reported at 4:50 a.m. PDT. Mata said that the incident was not believed to be gang-related.
Nonu left the CU football program in 2007 after suffering from chronic back problems. He was born on Aug. 16, 1988, in San Clemente, Calif.

The Mesa State baseball team defeated Minnesota State 7-4 on Sunday to advance in the NCAA Division II Central Regional playoffs in St. Cloud, Minn.
