ERIE, Colo.—A man killed in a plane crash north of Denver has been identified as a racing pilot who built and sold racing aircraft.
The Weld County coroner says 64-year-old Ib Christian R. Hansen died Sunday when a plane he was demonstrating for a potential buyer crashed after takeoff at Erie Municipal Airport.
The cause is under investigation.
The coroner’s office says Hansen’s son was watching from the ground.
Hansen lived in the Denver suburb of Arvada. His age was previously reported as 65.
Federal Aviation Administration records show the plane was a Cassutt III M.
Bob Bement, operations director for the International Formula One Air Racing group, says Cassutt aircraft are built by individuals from a set of plans.
Bement says Hansen was among the most knowledgeable Cassutt builders around.
