GREELEY — Derek Rodriguez had the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning, and Bennett stormed back to beat Florence in a Class 3A baseball tournament elimination game, 4-3.
Bennett had trailed 3-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth, but then got runs on a steal of home, a passed ball and a bases-loaded walk.
That set the stage for Rodriguez’s game-winning hit, which drove in Coal Wakeham — who got the win for Bennett on the mound after striking out 15 and allowing only five hits. Wakeham went the distance and was charged with one earned run.
Bennett plays Holy Family in another elimination game at 12:30 p.m. today.
