Shug’s Low Country Cuisine — a restaurant serving up comfort food, barbecue and Sunday Gospel blues brunches — is opening in a downtown Boulder space formerly occupied by the b.side Lounge.
Shug’s leased 2017 13th St., a spot has been vacant since the b.side Lounge closed on Dec. 31, 2009. Before the b.side Lounge, the space was for many years home to Trilogy Wine Bar & Lounge.
James Dixon, a director for building owner Tebo Development Co., said the primary reason the property sat dark for so long was because of its size. A large portion of the 4,377-square-foot space is a music venue — something Tebo Development wanted to keep, Dixon said.
With the arrival of Shug’s and the early June opening of next-door neighbor Los Oasis Latin Grill and Cerveceria, it’s the first time since December 2009 when the 13th Street building will be completely occupied.
