Getting your player ready...

King Soopers wants to pump you up with a sooper savings program starting Wednesday that will allow shoppers to save up to $1 per gallon of gas at 63 King Soopers gas stations.

The grocery chain’s new fuel accumulation program will allow customers to redeem up to 1,000 fuel points during a single fill-up. Points are earned through grocery, prescription and gift card purchases using the King Soopers SooperCard.

For every 100 points customers earn (at one point per dollar spent), they will receive a 10 cents-per-gallon discount up to $1 a gallon at King Soopers and Loaf ‘N Jug fuel centers. Before the points-accumulation program, shoppers only earned a maximum 10 cents off per gallon.

Shell gas-station shoppers still will be able to redeem 100 points to save 10 cents per gallon but will not get the $1 off per gallon deal.

From Wednesday through June 21 only, customers purchasing gift cards at King Soopers stores will earn four times the points, and 50 points will be given for every prescription that is filled or refilled at a King Soopers pharmacy.

“King Soopers continues to look for programs that benefit our customers and allow them to save on necessities like food and gas,” said Russ Dispense, president of King Soopers.

King’s customers can track their points by reading the bottom of their receipt or by registering a SooperCard number at .

MAX move.

MAXOutlet, the deep-discount branch of the MAX women’s boutiques in Cherry Creek, Boulder and Aspen, is moving out of Highland and into the downstairs of the MAX building at 264 Detroit St. starting Monday.

The outlet store, which originally opened in 2005, sells past-season merchandise for 60 percent to 80 percent off as well as off- priced current season merchandise on consignment.

Cool jewels.

Sonny’s Rocks jewelry store, at 1501 S. Colorado Blvd., was named one of the Coolest Stores in America for 2011 by Instore Magazine, a trade publication. Instore Mag lauded Sonny’s for its casual dress code, rock ‘n’ roll-inspired store decor, quirky website and provocative advertising featuring scantily clad couples.

“After 35 years in the jewelry business, I’m ready to have fun and rock ‘n’ roll,” said store owner Michael Nedler.

Going.

Baur’s, a fine-dining eatery in the historic building at 1512 Curtis St., is closing June 28 after a four-year run.

Owner Jimmy Lambatos said he couldn’t come to terms on the lease with the landlord. The original Baur’s opened in that spot in 1891, and was famous for its ice cream.

The space will be taken over by Argyll pub owner Robert Thompson, who will turn it into Le Grand Bistro & Oyster Bar, a French place similar to Brasserie Rouge, the restaurant he closed in the Ice House. Le Grand, slated to open Sept. 1, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Lambatos, who founded Footer’s Catering, says he will reopen Baur’s in another downtown space.

“I hope customers will come on in between now and the 28th, redeem their gift certificates and have a drink with Jimmy,” Lambatos said.

Gone.

The Northwoods Inn, a Littleton steak house at 8109 Lakeland Drive that’s been in biz for a half- century, abruptly closed recently.

The rustic restaurant was owned by Fred Maten from its opening until his death in 2001. Maten’s wife, Pat, and stepson, Mike, took over the business.

We all scream for ice cream.

Skoops Ice Cream & More, 1209 E. Ninth Ave., was set to celebrate its grand opening Saturday.

Owners Tim Hamann and Eddie Horn are serving premium ice cream along with handmade sandwiches, desserts, crepes and weekly specials.
