A fire warning has been issued in southeast Colorado as strong winds and warm temperatures continue to spark concern.
A “Red Flag Warning” was issued for the San Luis Valley and all of the southeast mountains and plains, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning, which indicates that conditions are ideal for the start and spread of wildfires, will remain in place until 9 p.m.
A fire weather watch is expected to last through Wednesday evening as gusty winds, warm temperatures and dry fuels remain along the plains.
A “Red Flag Warning” will likely be issued for the area tomorrow as well.
Temperatures in the area are expected to be in the high 80s and low 90s today with wind gusts between 20 and 30 mph.
Conditions could improve on Thursday as a cool front moves down the eastern part of the state.
While the front is expected to bring cooler temperatures little moisture is expected, and possible thunderstorms are a could pose a threat of lightning igniting a fire.
