Boulder-based footwear maker Newton Running Co. has received about $20 million from the investment firm of Paul Fireman, the founding CEO of Reebok International.

Newton, co-founded by Jerry Lee and Danny Abshire, is the sixth investment by Fireman Capital Partners in the competitive footwear business.

“Newton Running is the footwear partner we’ve been seeking for quite some time. It’s a brand that is disruptive in the marketplace, authentic and driven by technology,” said the investment firms partner Dan Fireman.

Newton claims its design allows runners to avoid landing on their heels, increasing their efficiency and reducing stress and potential injuries.
