DENVER—FBI officials say the suspect in the abduction and sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl in Denver was found sleeping in a van in New Jersey.
FBI spokesman Dave Joly said Monday 27-year-old Bret Lee Luckett Thompson was arrested soon after midnight in North Brunswick, N.J. Law enforcement officials say he was sleeping in the back of his van behind a Walmart when they found him.
Thompson was accused of kidnapping the child from a Denver alleyway in a white van and sexually assaulting her. She was found about 90 minutes later at a gas station three miles away.
Thompson faces extradition to Colorado on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Denver prosecutors charged Thompson last week while he was still at large.
