U.S. employers remain upbeat about their hiring plans, the seventh consecutive quarter for such a positive outlook, according to an industry survey released today.

Manpower Survey says in a new report that surveyed more than 18,000 employers nationally, about one-in-five expected to increase staff in the third quarter of 2011. That offsets the eight percent of companies that said they were expecting to downsize.

The percentages were roughly the same in Colorado, although just six percent of employers surveyed here said they expected to cut staff.

The employment outlook for the Denver-Aurora area is weaker than the state’s overall outlook.

“Although employers are not signaling dramatic upswings in hiring plans, there does seem to be hiring energy developing based on sustained year-over-year growth,” Manpower America’s region president Jonas Prising said.

Optimism in hiring was highest in the Northeast and among employers in the leisure and hospitality sectors. For Colorado, the most optimism is reflected in the transportation and utilities sector.

Modest decreases nationally were predicted by government, health and education services.
