Fairplay resident and baby nurse Lisa Cravener was on the way to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center to give birth Monday night when she realized the baby was coming sooner than expected.

Her husband, Jim, pulled over at the Breckenridge 7-Eleven, called 911, and witnessed Summit County Ambulance paramedic Lindsay Nelson deliver his baby boy just five minutes later in the front seat of his Dodge Durango.

Jim said when Lisa told him she needed to go to the hospital, he called ahead, got the car and sped to the hospital. His sister — also in the car — was timing Lisa’s contractions from the back seat, which quickly progressed to three minutes, and then 30 seconds apart.

The baby, Hunter James Cravener, was 7 pounds, 12 ounces and 20 inches long. Both mom and baby were treated and taken to St. Anthony Summit Medical Center, where they are doing well.
