Happy birthday, Phyllis Hyman

Talk about an underrated performer: Phyllis Hyman was one of the most respected soul singers of the 1970s and ’80s, and scored a Tony nomination in 1981 for her turn in “Sophisticated Ladies.” Hyman’s hits included “You Know How to Love Me” and “Never Say Never Again,” from the Bond movie. Hyman, who died in 1995, would have been 62 today. Anyone for a Sophisticated Lady?

Sophisticated Lady

Makes 1 drink.

Ingredients
1 1/2   ounces gin
1       ounce peach brandy
        Squeeze lemon juice
        Lemon peel for garnish

Directions
Shake gin, peach brandy and lemon juice together over ice. Strain into cocktail glass and garnish with lemon peel.
