Rapids forward Conor Casey will undergo an MRI today to determine the severity of an injury that is being listed as a left calf/Achilles tendon strain.
Casey, the team’s leading scorer, was injured during the team’s 4-3 loss at Seattle Saturday. Casey traveled home that evening on crutches.
Casey scored six goals in the preceding seven games but left Saturday’s game in the 38th minute without scoring. He was visibly upset in the aftermath of the injury.
If the Achilles tendon is torn, Casey could be out for the season. David Beckham ruptured his Achilles in March 2010 and didn’t return to the field until six months later.
The Rapids have two home games this week, Wednesday vs. New York and Saturday vs. New England.
Red Bulls Marquez also out
New York defender Rafa Marquez, who was also named an MLS all-star, will not be in the Red Bulls’ lineup Wednesday when the team plays the Rapids in Commerce City, coach Hans Backe told the New York Post on Monday.
Marquez has been out since June 25 when he starred for Mexico in a Gold Cup championship win over the United States. He also will not be available for the MLS team in the All-Star game.
