The dim lighting of the washed over drums and cellos Monday night — the mood was set for , the seminal cello group fronted by artist Melora Creager. She brought a command that served the music, while cellist Daniel DeJesus offered fine vocal and string accompaniment. The thumping rhythms of percussionist Dawn Miceli supported the strings, following them through musical twists and turns.

Songs like “Hunter’s Kiss” and “Snow-Hen of Austerlitz” were highlights on a night full of folklore and tall tales — and Melora’s commentary between songs showed a historical intellect and humor that can sometimes be lost on an audience … but not Monday night.
