Colorado Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp’s wife, Kim, died Saturday morning after a three-year battle with cancer.
Kim Kopp, 37, was diagnosed with cervical cancer three years ago, and at the end of the first year, she went into remission, according to a news release.
One year later, doctors told Kopp she had a rare form of cancer called small cell carcinoma on the perimetrium, a form of cancer doctors knew little about.
“She shared her faith, humor, courage and it was easy to see what incredible strength she had,” Mike Kopp said in a statement. “That strength came from Jesus Christ, whom Kim followed throughout her life.”
Kim Kopp is survived by her husband and the couple’s four children: Meghan, Ethan, Allie-Grace and Soren.
“Kim’s spirit and life will continue through the creation of Kimmy’s Hope Foundation — a new foundation which will focus on finding a cure for small cell carcinoma,” Mike Kopp said.
