DENVER—Two influential education groups are backing an initiative to raise Colorado’s income and sales taxes for public school funding.
The Colorado Association of School Boards and the Colorado Association of School Executives are backing a plan by state Sen. Rollie Heath that would increase the state’s income tax from 4.63 percent to 5 percent for five years.
The plan would also raise the state’s sales tax from 2.9 percent to 3 percent.
The Denver Post reports ( ) that the state teachers union has yet to weigh in on the proposal.
