In early April, Deborah Heriford’s picture was everywhere in Colorado Springs — on telephone and light poles, in mailboxes and in businesses’ windows.

Her family had reported her missing after she failed to show up for work as a crossing guard. Her disappearance set off a flurry of activity: Volunteers distributed fliers, search parties scoured the neighborhood, and a candlelight vigil was held to keep spirits up.

Four months later, the mother of four is still missing. The fliers have fallen off the poles. There are no search parties. There has been no update from police for almost two months, and no arrests have been made.

There is nothing the family can do except wait for the news they expect, yet dread.

“It’s funny how you wake up one day and it’s four months later,” Heriford’s daughter Chrissy Mazzarelli said last week. “Every day, you pray that she’ll come home, but you also have to live your life.”
