Boulder police want bystanders who used their phones to record an officer take a beating allegedly from 23-year-old Treven Hunter on Friday night to offer the evidence.
Officer Christian McCracken continues to recover from his injuries under a doctor’s care.
Police say Hunter repeatedly had punched a bar manager after refusing to pay his $3 bar tab and being asked to leave The Sink Restaurant and Bar on University Hill.
When McCracken caught up to Hunter outside, “Hunter immediately became belligerent and aggressive, and that it appeared he was probably under the influence of alcohol,” according to a news release from the department Wednesday.
When McCracken tried to put him in handcuffs, Hunter attacked the officer before bystanders helped restrain Hunter, police said.
In October, Boulder Police Sgt. Jim Byfield was assaulted and seriously injured on University Hill by a young man who has not been caught, despite a $10,500 reward.
