The biofuels joint venture of BP and DuPont has filed a lawsuit alleging a Douglas County-based biofuels company is infringing on one of its patents.
Gevo Inc. disclosed Wednesday that Buta max Advanced Biofuels filed the complaint Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Delaware. The Butamax patent is for certain methods of producing isobutanol, which has been touted as an option for providing fuel with lower greenhouse-gas emissions.
Gevo has said it uses proprietary yeast to ferment corn sugars into isobutanol. It says it intends to vigorously defend the lawsuit.
