A man who died after a car crash early today had been shot in the chest, the Denver medical examiner’s office said tonight.

Manuel Amaro-Rojas, 24, of Denver crashed his green 1998 Hyundai Elantra four-door sedan into a chainlink fence at West 8th Avenue and Decatur Street at about 2:20 a.m., police said.

Records show he lived about two and half blocks from the crash site, which is a block east of Federal Boulevard and three blocks west of Interstate 25.

The autopsy found Amaro-Rojas died from a “perforating gunshot wound” that passed through his right arm and into his chest, the coroner’s office said.

The death has been classified as a homicide.

Anyone who might have seen Amaro-Rojas or his car earlier can call Crime Stoppers 720-913-7867.
