Gary Hunter is Fort Lewis College’s new director of athletics, college president Dene Kay Thomas announced Monday.
Hunter previously served as athletic director at NCAA Division I schools Wichita State and Idaho, as well as associate director of athletics at Kansas.
His career includes experience at the professional level, including the senior executive vice president of the Nuggets and Avalanche.
Former Pioneer Rohnert to play in France.
Nate Rohnert, who played for the University of Denver men’s basketball team from 2006-10, will play for Denain ASC Voltaire in France this season. While with the Pioneers, Rohnert earned All-Sun Belt Conference honors as a junior and senior.
Cowboys’ Cruz helping Mexico.
Wyoming men’s basketball player Francisco Cruz has been a solid contributor, averaging 11.o points, 5.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game, for the Mexican team at the World University Games in Shenzhen, China. The Mexican team plays Hungary on Wednesday in Group D play.

The Colorado State women’s volleyball team will open up the season ranked No. 15 in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Penn State is No. 1.
