Drugs, alcohol and high speeds may have led to a fatal single-vehicle crash early this morning at Interstate 225 and Parker Road in Aurora, police said.
A female driver was northbound on I-225 at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour when her 2001 Dodge Intrepid veered to the left around 12:30 a.m., said Aurora police Lt. Chuck DeShazer.
A female passenger in the car later told police that the driver over-corrected as she approached the median, causing her to lose control. The car slid off the east side of the road, then rolled one and a half times.
The driver and two female passengers were thrown from the vehicle, which landed upside-down on top of the driver, who was pinned underneath the car, DeShazer said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers found a partially consumed bottle of alcohol and drug paraphernalia at the scene, DeShazer said.
The two passengers were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Police have not identified any of the people involved.
I-225 was closed from about 1:45 a.m. until 5:40 a.m. The scene is now cleared.
