In a meeting that’s likely to rekindle some strong feelings, the Boulder City Council on Tuesday night will decide whether to ban dogs from two trails within the city’s West Trail Study Area.

The question of whether people should have additional “no-dog opportunities” within the West TSA — open space land that lies west of Broadway and stretches from Linden Avenue south to Eldorado Springs Drive — has come full circle since the council approved the comprehensive trail management plan in March.

That decision included a unanimous vote to continue to allow dogs on the Tenderfoot Chapman Loop Trail and the Saddle Rock Trail despite a recommendation from a community advisory group to ban dogs in those areas.

But the council directed staffers to come up with additional options for dog-free areas for families, the elderly and people who are afraid of dogs.

Now city officials are recommending that the council ban dogs on the Boy Scout Trail and along Flagstaff Summit Road during its winter closure.
