A pair of recent coyote attacks on small children in Broomfield’s Anthem neighborhood has raised concerns among area residents and local wildlife officials about the animals’ comfort level around people.

As of last week, officials from Colorado Parks and Wildlife were still on the lookout for an aggressive coyote that bit a 6-year-old boy in Broomfield’s Anthem subdivision Tuesday night, department spokeswoman Jennifer Churchill said.

The attack occurred around 7 p.m. Tuesday, when the victim was walking with his father and 2-year-old sister on a trail south of Colo. 7 between Lowell Boulevard and Sheridan Parkway, according to Broomfield police. A coyote reportedly sprang from tall grasses near the trail and knocked the child over before running off, police said.

The boy’s father took him to an area hospital, where, in addition to scrapes, doctors discovered small puncture wounds on the boy’s buttocks, according to police.
