The actions last year of an allegedly corrupt party chairman led the Larimer County GOP to accrue $48,700 in fines for failing to file six of its required campaign-finance reports.
However, that fine has been reduced to $15,707, according to a letter sent out to county party officials by Judd Choate, the elections division director in the secretary of state’s office.
In July, a felony-theft arrest warrant was issued for former party chief Larry Carillo, who is accused of embezzling $17,696 from the Republican Party and using the money to pay telephone and cable-television bills and to cover gambling debts.
