The Air Force men’s basketball team begins its 2011-12 season with four consecutive home games, including a Wednesday, Nov. 23 game against Colorado.
After a nonconference schedule that runs through Jan. 9, the Falcons begin Mountain West play Jan. 14 at Boise State. The first conference home game is against Wyoming on Jan. 18. The season finale is March 3 at home against rival Colorado State.
NCHC starts commissioner search.
The National Collegiate Hockey Conference announced it has started a national search for its first commissioner.
The conference, which will begin its inaugural season in 2013-14, has six founding members: Colorado College, University of Denver, Miami (Ohio), Minnesota-Duluth, Nebraska-Omaha and North Dakota.
The search for a commissioner will be spearheaded by the conference’s consultants, The Goldwater Group of Bethesda, Md., and Stafford Sports of Medford, N.J.
The NCHC hopes to hire a commissioner before the end of the year. The consultants will also work on assessing if members should be added, considering media platforms, and the location of the conference tournament.
Colorado riders finish 21st.
Howard Grotts and Todd Wells of Durango and Georgia Gould of Fort Collins were three of the four riders who finished 21st in the 11.6-mile cross country relay at the Mountain Bike World Championships in Champery, Switzerland. Alicia Rose Pastore of Durango finished 26th in the junior women’s cross country race.
