The first wave of balloons lifted off shortly before 7 a.m. at Memorial Park this Labor Day morning as the Colorado Balloon Classic wrapped up its 35th year.
Dozens of colorful balloons lifted off Monday from the park near downtown Colorado Springs, prompting cheers from bystanders and the clicks of hundreds, if not thousands, of cameras and cell phones.
There are about 60 balloons participating in this year’s festival.
Monday’s launch makes two in a row after Sunday’s lift-off and a disappointing Saturday that brought high winds with dawn, grounding hot air balloons.
