MONTROSE, Colo.—A former Colorado district attorney convicted of harassment and violating his bail conditions has voluntarily gone to a county jail while he awaits sentencing.
Former 7th Judicial District Attorney Myrl Serra was convicted last week of the charges, which stemmed from an alleged confrontation he had with a victim in a separate criminal case. He’s accused of unlawful sexual contact and other charges in that case.
The Montrose Daily Press ( ) reports Wednesday that Serra had the option of remaining free on the $5,000 bail he posted but chose to go to jail. Defense attorney M. Colin Bresee says Serra has accepted the jury’s decision and is willing to start his sentence.
An Oct. 31 trial date is set for the separate charges he faces. Sentencing for his recent convictions has not been scheduled.
