The Cañon City General Government committee recommended City Council’s support of a regional dispatch center for the county’s emergency responders during Wednesday’s meeting.
Cañon City Police Chief Duane McNeill spoke to the committee about the need for such a center.
Currently, there are two dispatch centers in the county, one at CCPD that services the department and the Cañon City Fire District and the other at the Florence Police Department that services that department and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
“Our equipment is eight years old, was made by Motorola,” McNeill said, adding Motorola no longer makes parts for the equipment. “What we have in place now has become obsolete. We’re really at a critical point.”
