The state Capitol was built with many materials mined in Colorado, so it’s probably only fitting the mining industry is lending a hand to help repair the building’s aging dome.

Colorado Preservation Inc., the nonprofit organization overseeing the restoration campaign, on Friday announced a $25,000 contribution to the campaign from the Colorado Mining Association.

The repairs to the dome will cost about $17 million. A fundraising campaign for the dome has generated less than $100,000 so far.
