Jerry Kidney of Overland Golf Course tied the competitive course record at Valley Country Club in Aurora — and came within two strokes of shooting his age — to win the Colorado Golf Association’s Senior Stroke Play Championship on Friday.

Kidney, a 63-year-old retired firefighter from Littleton, shot a 7-under-par 65 to finish at 8-under 208 and win the overall and super-senior division titles.

Rapids gain defender Comminges.

The Rapids signed defender Miguel Comminges, 29, and designated him as an international player. Comminges, a Guadeloupe international with experience playing professionally in France and England, is expected to join the team early next week and will be eligible for Tuesday night’s match against Santos Laguna in the CONCACAF Champions League.

CU netters falter vs. Siena.

Kerra Schroeder had 19 kills, and Nikki Lindow added 10, but the University of Colorado volleyball team lost a tough five-setter to Siena, 26-24, 15-25, 23-25, 25-17, 13-15 at Fordham University’s Rose Hill Classic in Bronx, N.Y.

• Colorado State coach Tom Hilbert said his No. 14-ranked team “played with a great deal of fear and not very much aggression” in a 3-1 (28-26, 19-25, 25-20, 25-22) loss to Wichita State at Moby Arena.

• The University of Denver volleyball team hit only .123 percent in losing the opening match of its own Pioneer Classic to Texas-San Antonio 3-1 (25-22, 14-25, 25-20, 27-25).

• Bri Morley had 12 kills, and Emily Greenhalgh had 10 kills and four digs as the Metro State volleyball team, ranked No. 9 in Division II, swept No. 6 Southwest Minnesota State 25-22, 25-19, 25-14.

Mammoth trades for defenseman Orsen.

The Colorado Mammoth traded for defenseman John Orsen of the Philadelphia Wings and sent transition player Ned Crotty to Philly. Orsen was second-team all-league in 2010 with Orlando. Denver Post staff and wire services
