Grab a jacket and umbrella, Denver — a wet, chilly day is ahead.

A cold front from the west means a swath of the high country is weathering its first winter-storm advisory of the season, according to the National Weather Service.

While Tuesday’s forecast low was 51 degrees before midnight in Denver, today’s high is expected to reach only 58 degrees, with a 70 percent to 80 percent chance of showers. The low could be close to 45 degrees.

Meanwhile, a winter-weather advisory is in effect from 3 p.m. today until 6 a.m. Thursday for several Colorado mountain areas.

Two to 6 inches of snow is expected above 12,000 feet in the Sawatch Mountains, Mosquito Range, northern Sangre de Cristo Mountains and on Pikes Peak.
