The largest freshman class ever at Colorado State University has helped push enrollment at the school to an all-time high of 26,735 students this fall.

Officials say this is the third consecutive year of record enrollment at CSU. It also comes on the heels of record-high research expenditures of $330 million, a 47 percent increase in private gift fund-raising and the second-most prolific fund-raising year in the history of the university.

A total of 6,077 entering freshman and transfers have joined the campus, including 19 percent more non-residents than last year. This includes a record 4,504 freshmen with 852 racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds – a 15 percent increase over last year.

In all, the total enrollment of 26,735 represents a 1.4 percent increase over last year.

The freshman class has an overall average GPA of 3.59 and average ACT composite of 24.7, a new high mark for CSU, officials said. More than 800 incoming freshmen arrived with a high school GPA of 4.0 or higher.
