Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar received a 2011 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute award Wednesday night in Washington, D.C.

The former senator from Colorado was presented with the Chair’s Award at the group’s annual awards gala, which honored his career in public service and his dedication to improving the lives of Americans.

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama attended the event.

Salazar was Colorado attorney general before moving on to the Senate. In January 2009, Obama appointed him to the Cabinet post. Kurtis Lee, The Denver Post
