Philanthropist Janet Mordecai, whose lead gift launched a capital campaign that enabled The Denver Hospice to build its inpatient, state-of-the-art Care Center at Lowry, is the recipient of the 2011 Heart of Hospice Award, and was honored at a dinner held in the Studio Loft at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House. Soprano Emalie Savoy, bass baritone Evan Hughes and pianist Nathan Brandwein, whose budding careers with New York’s Metropolitan Opera are being helped along by Mordecai’s financial support, flew in to perform selections from five of the honoree’s favorite operas.
