Even Drew Pomeranz, a bright light in this forgettable month, dimmed Friday. The left-hander continued a string of dreadful starting pitching, hammered for six runs in two innings in Colorado’s 11-2 loss. The Astros began the game with six consecutive hits for the first time in their 49-year history. The Rockies’ starters own a 9.29 ERA during the nine-game losing streak, which is the fourth-longest in their history. The 1993 expansion team dropped 13 straight, a mark in jeopardy given the talent- challenged, injury-depleted lineup starting now.
Hit parade.
Every Astros starter hit safely, including Clint Barmes, who homered. Carlos Lee had four RBIs for the second consecutive game, and J.B. Shuck posted a career-high three hits.
Just a pinch.
Jason Giambi, suffering from a stiff back, will be available only to pinch hit the remainder of the season. Chris Nelson hit his first pinch-hit home run.
