LIBYA: Forces loyal to Gadhafi attack across border.

Gunmen loyal to Moammar Gadhafi crossed the Libyan border from Algeria and attacked revolutionary forces in a town near the frontier, killing six people, officials said Sunday.

The cross-border attack Saturday shows loyalist forces have managed to escape Libya, regroup and collect arms, bolstering fears the North African nation could face a protracted insurgency.

YEMEN: President hints at elections rather than stepping down.

Yemen’s president addressed his troubled nation Sunday for the first time since returning to the country after an assassination attempt, making no promise to immediately step down but saying he is committed to a deal to end months of spiraling violence.

“The crisis is big. You who are chasing power, let’s all go to the ballot boxes,” said Ali Abdullah Saleh, suggesting elections rather than agreeing to step down.
