Brush is the new No. 1 team in Class 2A this week, taking over for Florence, which was upset by Trinidad on Friday.
The Beetdiggers, who had been No. 2 behind the Huskies since the preseason, received 11 of the 13 first-place votes in 2A’s ranking of the Denver Post media poll. Florence dropped to fourth following its 14-7 loss, behind Bayfield — which got the two remaining first-place votes — and Kent Denver.
Pagosa Springs (fifth) and Aspen (sixth) each moved up one spot as Faith Christian dropped to No. 7. The Eagles last week.
Eaton bumped up to eighth, just ahead of The Academy (No. 9) and St. Mary’s (No. 10) — two schools making their season debut in the ranking this week.
The polls for the state’s biggest classifications remained largely unchanged.
In the 5A ranking, Mullen and Columbine each bumped up a spot as Pomona fell from No. 3 to 5 following . The Mustangs, who last week, are now third, and the unbeaten Rebels are fourth.
Top-ranked Grand Junction, coming off , picked up two more first place votes, and now has eight. Still, Grandview, with four first-place votes, continued to close the gap between the top two teams, and now trails by just 15 points.
Four different teams — Grand Junction, Grandview, Mullen and Columbine — received first-place votes.
The final five spots remained unchanged: Ralston Valley, Chaparral, Regis Jesuit, Bear Creek and Highlands Ranch.
Valor remained 4A’s unanimous No. 1 team, garnering all 14 first-place votes. The teams ranked Nos. 2-8 went unchanged this week: Monarch, Longmont, Pine Creek, Castle View, Montrose, Greeley West and Broomfield.
Cheyenne Mountain joined the 4A ranking for the first time this season, debuting at No. 9 and replacing Ponderosa, which dropped out. Wheat Ridge remained at tenth.
Vista Ridge, helped by its last week, held on to the No. 1 spot in 3A.
Burlington remained a unanimous pick in 1A, and Hoehne (8-man) and Fleming (6-man) continued to hold the top spot in their respective classifications this week.
The Denver Post poll surveys media members from around the state, with a total of 30 different members voting in the classifications they cover. A complete listing of the panel is below.
