Grand Junction may get Ghosts.

The Grand Junction City Council has given the city manager approval to proceed with talks with the Monfort Investment Group on a minor-league baseball franchise.

The Monfort Investment Group, led by Rockies co- owners Dick and Charlie Monfort, bought the Casper Ghosts this year. That created speculation the rookie- level Pioneer League team might leave Casper.

Grand Junction Mayor Tom Kenyon said at a council meeting Wednesday that in an executive session before the meeting, council members had given the city manager approval to proceed with talks.

An item requiring the Grand Junction City Council’s vote is expected to be on the agenda for the council’s Oct. 17 meeting, but the city isn’t releasing details.
