Fatal work injuries dipped to 80 last year in Colorado, down three from 2009 and the lowest level since 77 in 1998, according to a federal report released Thursday.
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said highway incidents were the most frequent type of workplace fatality in Colorado in 2010, accounting for 17 deaths, down from 24 in 2009.
Injuries that were self-inflicted claimed 11 lives in 2010, up from nine in 2009. Work deaths from being hit by an object doubled from five in 2009 to 10 in 2010. Falls caused 10 deaths last year compared with nine a year earlier.
Men accounted for 90 percent of the fatalities; 74 percent were white non- Hispanics, and more than half were ages 25-54. Ann Schrader, The Denver Post
