AURORA — A popular pumpkin-tossing competition in Aurora is getting a change of scenery this year.

The city is moving today’s annual Jack-O-Launch event, now called Punkin Chunkin Colorado, to the Arapahoe County Fairgrounds. It had been held the previous 11 years at DeLaney Farm, said city spokeswoman Lori MacKenzie.

The event, where teams of amateur engineers construct machines that shoot pumpkins over long distances, traditionally draws from 10,000 to 15,000 people, she said. “We’re hoping to build on those numbers this year with the new and bigger location,” MacKenzie said.

In all, eight local teams will battle it out this weekend in a variety of divisions, including air cannons and catapult machines.
