Sunny skies over Denver today will likely give way to cloudy weather and rain tomorrow, with a slight chance of rain in the city on Sunday.

Skies are mostly sunny in Denver today and the high temperature should top out at about 66 degrees.

But increasing clouds will build up over the city overnight, and rainy, cooler weather is likely Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday’s high temperature in the city should be about 46 degrees and there’s a 70 percent chance of rain, the weather service reports.

Meanwhile, snow is expected tonight through Saturday in the mountains, including the Front Range Foothills and South Park.

The snow elevation level should drop to about 6,000 feet overnight and some areas could see up to three inches of new snow by Saturday morning, the weather service said.

Stormy weather should continue on Saturday, bringing early season snow to the mountains and Front Range Foothills and rain to northeastern Colorado.

Most of the precipitation will be during the day Saturday, and some mountain areas, especially along the Front Range above 7,000 feet, could get up to 10 inches of snow before the storm winds down Sunday.

Parts of Douglas and Elbert counties could see a snow and rain mix on Saturday, while areas south of Castle Rock are expected to receive several inches of wet snow.

The stormy weather should clear out Sunday, but there will be a slight chance of rain on the northeast plains, the weather service said.

Denver will have a 20 percent chance of rain on Sunday and the high temperature should hit about 56 degrees.

On Monday, Columbus Day, the city should see mostly sunny skies with a high of about 65 degrees.
