DENVER—The owner of North Washington Street Kennel in Adams County has told Colorado agriculture officials the kennel is closing, without saying why.

But KMGH-TV in Denver reports () Jeff Fortin told his leasing agent an investigation by the Denver television station put him out of business.

The station reports Fortin also hasn’t renewed his breeding license for a facility in Kansas.

Kansas records show Fortin euthanized more than 1,000 dogs in Kansas last year after a distemper outbreak.

In Colorado, a former Fortin employee and another employee have accused Fortin of euthanizing dogs at his pet store by injecting liquid soap into animals’ hearts. Police told KMGH prosecutors determined there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue a search warrant.
