Firefighters battled a smoky blaze this morning at the Urban Sombrero, an east Denver restaurant that was the target of an arsonist in June.
Firefighters were called bout 6:30 a.m. to 16221 E. 40th Ave. by a security company on a report of a fire, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.
Firefighters arrived and found heavy smoke and an active fire, which they put out in about 15 minutes, Champagne said.
No one was injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it does not appear to be suspicious, Champagne said.
The Urban Sombrero caught fire in June and investigators ruled the blaze arson.
David Lawless, 30, of Denver, has been accused in the crime.
Lawless, who is in federal custody and being held without bail, was indicted by a federal grand jury in July of planting a homemade bomb at a Lakewood mall in June, the day after the Urban Sombrero fire.
Lawless is being held at the Federal Correctional Institution in Englewood, said Jeff Dorschner, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of Colorado.
A trial by jury in Lawless’ case was scheduled for Oct. 3, but it has been continued. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting him for the Mills bomb incident and the June arson of the Urban Sombrero.
