DENVER—President Barack Obama is hoping for an enthusiastic reaction at Denver’s Auraria campus, where he plans to talk up his plan to reduce student loan payments.
College students, and recent college grads, are a crucial demographic for the president, who is scheduled to speak Wednesday morning. On Tuesday the administration announced that millions of student loan borrowers will be eligible to lower their payments and consolidate their loans under the plan. Obama planned to give details at his Denver speech.
Obama arrived in Denver Tuesday night for two fundraisers. Some of the Occupy Wall Street protesters camping in a city park walked to the Pepsi Center to picket Obama’s visit.
More protesters were expected outside the speech early Wednesday.
