COLORADO SPRINGS — Police suspect a woman, 43, plunged a Colorado Springs company into bankruptcy last year by embezzling more than $460,000 through forged checks.

Christina Bratcher, the former bookkeeper of Colorado Welding Supply, 855 Garner St., is wanted on suspicion of forging 200 checks over four years, said Eric Younger, owner of the now-defunct company. Colorado Springs police on Friday issued a warrant for her arrest.

“She was a friend,” Younger said. “And it was just staggering to me. . . . While I was turning my cars in while I was filing bankruptcy . . . I had nothing left,” he continued. “And she sat straight across from a desk from me every morning.”

Bratcher, the daughter of one of Younger’s friends, began working for Younger in 2005, four years after he quit his job as a truck driver and started the company, he said.

He remembers her job interview well. “She came across as very competent,” Younger said. “And obviously she was, because she (allegedly) robbed me blind.”
